Ceremony on April 25 at Cooper Union Includes High-Profile Bill Moggridge Award

CLINTON, Tenn., April 21, 2015 – Techmer PM, a leading producer of value-added colors and additives for the plastics and fiber industries, is pleased to sponsor the Royal Society of Arts United States (RSA-US) Student Design Awards (SDA), which will be held in New York City on April 25 at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. This is the third year Techmer PM has sponsored the awards program since it was founded in the United States.

Techmer PM sponsors four awards, including the second annual Bill Moggridge Award for Interdisciplinary Design that is aimed at projects that draw from two or more design disciplines. The other Techmer PM-sponsored awards are Design Innovation, Sustainable Design Practices, and Materials Science and Development (for materials application or composition).

The RSA Student Design Awards, which seeks to inspire collaborative, multidisciplinary, design-led social change, will celebrate its 90th anniversary this year in the United Kingdom, while the U.S. program is in its third year. Both the U.S. and U.K. programs are open to undergraduate students currently enrolled in colleges and universities.

“As a company that prides itself on innovation, Techmer PM is honored to continue in its role as sponsor of this prestigious awards program,” said David Turner, Techmer PM vice president and chairman of the 2015 Awards. “We look forward to honoring the winners, many of whom will go on to make important contributions in the design community.”

The awards ceremony will be held at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, which was founded in 1859 by inventor, industrialist, and philanthropist Peter Cooper.

Mr. Turner will deliver opening remarks and introduce keynote speaker Richard Clarke, global vice president of design at Nike, Inc. Mr. Clarke won an RSA award while attending Berkshire School of Art and Design.

Additionally, Alex Moggridge will present the Award for Interdisciplinary Design in honor of his father, the late Bill Moggridge. William Grant “Bill” Moggridge, RDI, was a British designer, author, and educator who co-founded the design company IDEO and was director of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York.

One of the greatest designers of the century, he was a pioneer in adopting a human-centered approach to design and championed interaction design as a mainstream design discipline. Among his achievements are designing the first laptop computer, the GRiD Compass, being honored for lifetime achievement from the National Design Awards; and receiving the Prince Philip Designer’s Prize.
